CAN I SHOP ON MY OWN?

Yes, you are of course free to spend your money however you’d like! Keep in mind that you have hired us to design and execute a complete vision for your space. We have your best interests (and budget) and the success of your project at heart and would hate for you to end up with something that doesn’t quite work. If you’re out and something amazing catches your eye, feel free to grab it, or even give us a quick call to discuss!

WHAT ADDITIONAL COSTS CAN I EXPECT?

I do my best to give you a full cost outlook of each item, but additional costs such as storage, shipping, installation, or unexpected labor do occasionally happen.

DO YOU WORK WITH CONTRACTORS?

I work with the contractors hired by the client. I love working with other design professionals to create your custom space. I prefer to use professionals that I have worked with on previous projects and can provide recommendations when necessary. The Designer does not provide contractor services; so independent architects and contractors hired by the client are an integral part of the process

HOW LONG DO PROJECTS NORMALLY LAST?

Depending on the scope and scale of the project, anywhere from 6 to 18 weeks for furnishing projects and smaller renovations, and longer for large scale projects and new constructions. Occasionally there are delays caused by weather, vendor vacations, factory errors, and other unpredictable influences that are out of my control. The client as well as all professionals hired to work on the project are expected to not cause unreasonable delays in the project.

CAN I CHANGE MY MIND AFTER AN ORDER IS PLACED?

Most often orders cannot be cancelled or refunded. In the event that a full refund can be attained you may cancel the order and receive a refund for the cost of the item minus the purchasing fee and any other applicable fees. You will be charged hourly for the time spent on cancelled orders. Custom orders are nonrefundable.

WHEN ARE PAYMENTS DUE?

Proposals are due with payment within 3 days. Invoices for design fee and facilitation costs are due within 14 days. Invoices more than 30 days past due will accrue a 10% late fee per month and all work will cease until invoice is paid.

WHAT IF I DECIDE MID-PROJECT I WANT TO ADD MORE TO THE SCOPE?

Since I charge a percentage fee, I will recalculate the fees from the added costs.

WHAT IF I HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT AN ITEM?

Please bring these to my attention immediately and we will discuss your concerns and if necessary, find a more desirable solution. The decision about what is purchased and installed in your home is ultimately yours.

WHAT ABOUT BUDGET?

We can work within your budget, whether you are looking for a completely custom masterpiece or more along the lines of Furniture stores or a mix of the two. Having a budget is very important for the project running smoothly and for your expectations to be met.

HOW ARE ITEMS DELIVERED?

Our policy is to perform one large installation of all your items. This includes all furniture and accessories purchased. It is our policy to not deliver items to client’s homes directly or in multiple trips. Clients are responsible for all shipping, storage, & delivery fees.

I DON’T SEE WHAT I NEED IN YOUR SERVICES. CAN WE STILL WORK TOGETHER?

For sure! I’m happy to take on custom projects that are outside the scope of my set services. The best way to get the ball rolling on any custom project is to schedule a discovery call so we can talk about your needs and create a plan together.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN THE ‘DISCOVERY CALL’?

The discovery call is a free 15–20-minute no-obligation call, where we discuss what you’d like to do with your home. If we think we’re a good fit, we can schedule an in-home design consultation to get started on a project or just to explore some of your ideas.

You can book a call here.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE IN-HOME CONSULTATION?

We’ll take a tour of your space, and will discuss your vision, needs, budget, and time frame. I’ll make lots of recommendations for improving the space on the spot, and—if desired— will present you after with a proposal outlining the scope of the project and the related fees.

HOW LONG DOES A TYPICAL PROJECT TAKE? WHAT’S YOUR PROCESS?

Depending on the scope and scale of the project, anywhere from 6 to 18 weeks. I have a clear 12-step process that I follow for projects that include both interior design and implementation. For smaller projects, not all the steps will apply, but the process remains the same.

SHOULD WE DO ONE ROOM AT A TIME OR TACKLE EVERYTHING WE WANT TO DO AT ONCE?

It is always best to tackle all the rooms you would like to improve at once. Generally speaking, it makes for a more cohesive space and decisions made in one room can affect another. Considering the layout and design of an entire home, or floor, at a time leads to the most advantageous outcome (like removing a wall or borrowing furniture or artwork from one room for another, for example).

There are also efficiencies and time savings relating to duplications of tasks when doing multiple rooms at once which I apply discounts for. However, I know it’s not always possible to do this. A good solution is to design everything at once, but implement in phases as your budget allows.

CAN YOU WORK WITH THE FURNITURE I ALREADY OWN?

Absolutely! I don’t believe in throwing the good out with the bad, and love coming up with clever and beautiful ways to remix, reuse, and re-purpose what you already have. Designing with objects that have significance, meaning, and history is a cornerstone of my approach. That said, I’ll be honest and let you know if something just won’t work.

WHAT IS YOUR DESIGN FEE?

We charge a flat fee of 15% of total project costs.

I LOVE YOUR STYLE BUT I’M NOT IN NAIROBI. CAN WE STILL WORK TOGETHER?

Yes! We have successfully completed projects in Kilifi, Mombasa, Siaya, Nakuru, Nyeri counties, among others.

DO I HAVE TO BRING MY OWN TRADESPEOPLE?

This can go either way! If you have a longestablished relationship with a trade, I’m happy to work with them on your project. If not, I have developed a team of trusted trades that I’ve worked closely with on many projects. Please note that trades do not usually keep the same hours as our studio. Some start relatively early in the mornings, and as a result, may not be available to return messages until evening hours. We will do our best to mitigate any breakdowns in communication and keep everyone in the loop regarding weekly work schedule.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

The first step is to book your 15-minute discovery call so we can chat about your project and discuss next steps.
